Institutional Technology Plan for Educational Technology Services

Creating my Instructional Technology Plan for Educational Technology Services was a daunting task that was thankfully broken up into several parts.

We were able to see how much work goes into creating a plan and all of the pieces to the plan and how to demonstrate the pieces of it.
My plan consists on a 4 year roll out plan for the high school I teach at with a current enrollment of 3800 students, and also provides a framework for the implementation, maintenance, and security of classroom technologies. Several components are included in the plan, including plans for software and information maintenance & security, network infrastructure, professional development, technology support, hardware maintenance, technology procurement & disposal, budget & auditing and communication.  The professional development portion of the plan requires teachers to have specialized training on instructional uses of technology. This training ensures that teachers are able to integrate technology into their pedagogical practices and select appropriate technologies for instruction. Proposed strategies for supporting teachers with instructional uses of technology include online tutorials for staff, options for ESL students, and training for staff on fair use and copyright law. The software and information maintenance & security portion of the plan requires operability and security of computing software. Ensuring the operability of software entails testing, upgrading, and replacing of computing software and providing students, teachers, and support staff the support needed for use of the software. Confirming the security of computing software involves the installation of security software to prevent attacks by cyber criminals. A network plan is required to ensure the network infrastructure supports the instructional program. This plan impacts how students and personnel will utilize network services to access the Internet and manage internal processes. The primary components of the network plan include the design, implementation, and maintenance of the network infrastructure. The technology portion of the support plan is required to determine how teachers and students get support for the instructional problem. This plan defines how teachers and students get support for software and hardware used to support the instructional program. The plan also establishes how students and teachers get technology training. All technology purchases must undergo the institutional procurement protocol to ensure all purchases are reasonable, justifiable, and necessary. This protocol requires the purchaser to seek multiple bids before making purchases that exceed $100. A communication plan is required to communicate information that impacts the integrity of the technology infrastructure. Such information includes the proper and prompt reporting of outages, the announcement of training sessions, the need for support, and the introductions of new tools through announcements and training sessions.
