Reflection for Course 678B
Effective integration of technology is something that we can all hope to achieve. I think of that the nightmare of being in your underwear in front of a large group is pretty similar to planning a lesson using technology and nothing working the way you planned. I personally would pick technology not working over being in my underwear in front of a class any day...but that's just me. ;)
I think that the fear comes from you feeling like the students know more about the technology than you do. Guess what? They probably do. They are always going to be quicker at texting or logging on to new sites because that is their world and we just teach in it. Embrace the fact that THEY can teach YOU something....if you let them.
One of the cool things that I learned about was the PBL unit. I did a review of my lesson in this post.
Before I got to even attempting a PBL unit, I did some brainstorming on what could be some issues or considerations for that unit in this blog post.

I think that I will continue to grow as an educator especially in the area of technology. If I only had more hours in the day to try and fit it all in and really make my lessons stand out....that would be great. But for now I will have to settle trying to get the most out of my 45 minute lunch/prep to get it all done.

Shelby,
ReplyDeleteI love the layout of your blog. The theme looks so cool. The quote that you have at the beginning is also so inspiring!
It's so great to ready how willing you are to grow as an educator and learn from your students. I think we can put up a boundary between ourselves and our students when we act like we always know more than them. We make valuable connections with our students when we fail in front of them and allow them to teach us something new.
Good luck next year!
Shelby,
ReplyDeleteI like that quote too! And I sure can understand your comments about plan time and how difficult it is to fit it all in. I always have more ideas than time to implement them. This class did help me understand the process a bit better and hopefully will help me use my plan time more efficiently. Good luck in the new school year.
Shelby,
ReplyDeleteI totally relate to the idea that the students definitely know more than I do and thus feeling as if I am not really effective as the authority in the room. However, allowing for the students to utilize their skills and background knowledge is key in giving them more power as learners. So, it is more about getting over the fear of not feeling "in control" with respect to technology and, instead, embracing the knowledge that they can provide and support each other as well. Thank you for your honesty!
